May 16 is Festival day opening with Star Spangle Banner and the Historical Society Jug Fest 5-K and 1 Mile Fun Run. Race begins at 7:30 am. Sign-in and ceremony to precede race. All proceeds to be used by the Crawford County Historical Society for preservation projects.
Demonstrations 9 am-4 pm in our Old Courthouse; Pottery Exhibit; History Exhibit; and much more! On the grounds and inside the over 100 year Knoxville Courthouse!
This family affair has something for everyone Pottery to Public Safety Area…For children to enjoy seeing and touching fire trucks, and public safety equipment or Red Cross information as well as an all time favorite the Fire Prevention Clowns will be in place behind the Fire Station along with the Little Brown Jug Children’s Area. Kids zone is ready to play and offers several areas for children to enjoy, Bounce house to slide, airplane ride to face painting, carnival type games with family in mind. Arts and crafts will also be part of the fun.
Historical exhibits set up and age old hand crafts of long ago explained and preformed at Knoxville “Old” Courthouse May-16. Dulcimers music will fill the afternoon air to carry on a tradition of the past. Jay Fulcher will be ready to display a collection and sing a song or two.
Story boards and the history is artfully displayed throughout the courthouse. Enjoy the history lesson they will provide.
Entertainment: Our entertainment is always free and so is our parking for this full day of fun and excitement bringing history to life and enjoying an old fashioned day of family fun.
Children’s Little Brown Jug to include fun and crafts with only youngster in mind. They will have fun! And they will take home a home made piece of pottery…if they would like. Come let them play. Bounce house, slides and carnival games, all in family fun for the little one.
Kiln Fired Pottery Sale…Registration at 8:30 am and sale begins at 9 am. Pottery is purchased and on its way to a new home. Shelby West fires up the kiln on Friday before the the May 16th festival. Shelby gathers and hauls in all the green pine need for the appropriate temperature in firing. On Saturday Morning at 9 be at the Knoxville Bottom to bid and chance to buy a one of kind piece of art. Shelby, Ronnie Payne and John Brinley will unload the under ground kiln and you have to be there early to get a chance for a piece of pottery to treasure .
Car Show…Register your “Pride and Joy” for the JugFest Car Show. Call or stop by the chamber for registration form or visit www.georgiajugfestival.com for registration form. $20 early registration and Dash Plaque for first 30; May 16th Entry Fee $25…have time left for those plaques. Registration 9-12 noon. Award Presentation of 12 Best of Show Awards Cars and Trucks at 3 PM and custom cars or trucks Award for: 12 Categories for Best and Over All Best of Show. Pottery ID and Auction: Pottery ID begins at 1 PM for Auction viewing begins at 1 PM Small fee for ID of pottery. Trade up or turn your past chosen artistry in clay to funds. Event funds will be applied to the historic projects.
On the festival field or at the “Old Courthouse”, Lunch by the Crawford Historical Society,however, food trucks on the vendor field. Vendors are displaying the hand crafting of all your favorite trinkets and wood working or the unique items. Pottery vendors are offering those treasured decorative,functional and collectors items.
Quilt Show in the Recycle Center is collection of Quilts on display number up to as many as 50 quilts designed to tantalize the eyes imagination with color and design. So will be of patterns of ancient to the modern quilt designs. One family has presented the Quilt Show for some years…Dianne Dye and her family are instrumental in it’s presentation. All quilts are crafted by individual quilters. You as the spectators, vote for the favorites. Friday afternoon at 1 pm will begin the showing of over 40 quilts. From 1 pm -5 on Friday and on May 16 until 5enjoy the show and vote for your favorite quilt. All day Saturday, from 9 am until 5 pm. in Roberta at the Recycling Center on Mathews Street take it the creations and vote for your favorite quilt. Come in free and enjoy this show.
Best of all…It is Free Admission, Free Parking and Free enjoyment for the family unless you choose to purchase from our many pottery and craft vendors or “pay to play” for children’s areas. May 14 , celebrate the arts with the Annual Art Show by High School and Mr. Stephen Johnson who works and brings the best to the show done by local artists. Included in the evening function, also free, includes West Memorial Birdhouse Contest and Awards of the show for both Birdhouse and Art Show participants. This leads to the Potters Hall of Fame. Potter to be announced soon. Last year it was Henry Averett. His pottery was part of the Pottery Exhibit at the New Courthouse.
May 15- Lunch and Learn je;d at Musella Baptist Church
Lunch and Learn is being sponsored by Champion’s Restaurant and a dining experience where you will be leaning and filling up on a beautifully served lunch by Champion’s Catering. Jerome Chapman will be the Guest Speaker, published author sure to stir interest. This is one event that will cost. Door Prizes will be awarded and plan to have a great afternoon and then head over to the Beautiful Quilt Show at the Recycle Center in Roberta
